Uganda

An extraordinary trip. My wife and I chose the Uganda trip with Pete Oxford Expeditions because we wanted to see gorillas and chimpanzees in the wild. After previous trips with Pete and Renee to the Galapagos Islands, India and Botswana, we knew they would do everything in their power to ensure we had the best possible experience. We weren’t disappointed. Our main goal, seeing gorillas and chimpanzees, was completely met. We spent two amazing days trekking through the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to have close encounters with two separate groups of mountain gorillas. Each day we got to spend at least an hour in close contact with gorilla groups as they went about their daily activities, often stepping aside to maintain our proper distance as huge silverbacks strolled by. We also spent over an hour in Kibale National Park with a very active troop of chimpanzees, including several young chimps who put on quite a show. In addition to these extraordinary headline events, what makes Pete and Renee’s trips so good is their wildlife knowledge, enthusiasm and attention to all the details to make the trip run seamlessly. Our days were a mix of game drives, boat rides and treks on foot. We got to visit local markets, see the sun rise on the Nile from a boat while cruising past elephants, hippos and cape buffalo, walk among rhinos at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and watch lions from the safety of our vehicles. We returned home with new friends, wonderful photographs and even better memories.

A trip of a lifetime made even better by Pete, Renee, our awesome guide Colette and the Mary Anne! Each day was a different adventure and planned in great detail. I felt we really discovered what each island had to offer while feeling safe and looked after. I learnt so much through Pete and Colette's amazing knowledge, enthusiasm and passion for our natural world. Pete's wonderful energy is so impactful, you can't wait to see what the day brings. Thank you for the unforgettable experience, I hope to join another adventure soon!

This was my first trip with Pete and Renee and I look forward to more. I don’t think there is a better way to communicate how highly I recommend them!
Their knowledge of the land, the communities and the wildlife, combined with their enthusiasm, smarts and sense of adventure—no matter where they are or what they’re doing—made this trip an outstanding experience.
Unique to the Uganda itinerary was how varied each day was. Some days we were on foot, in fact many. Other days we were in boats. Some days were safari days in the jeep. I loved the blend and highly recommend it to anyone looking to visit Africa for the first time (or the second time or the fifth.)
People who are attracted to a Pete and Renee trip seem to be open and curious and bright, and I enjoyed the rest of the group. I was traveling with friends but certainly know I would’ve had a wonderful experience had I travelled on my own.
Thank you to Pete and Renee. Your creative, excellent and agile planning could not have been more appreciated. And you are both just wonderful people on top of that.

Uganda

This was the first time we travelled with Pete and Renee and we certainly intend to travel with them again. The safari was full of animals, some of which we had not seen before such as shoebills, tree pangolins and chimps, and many old favorites including elephants, giraffes, antelopes, crocodiles, hippos, and the ever wonderful mountain gorillas. Birds of all sizes and colours were in huge numbers everywhere on drives as well as at the lodges. We also had some beautiful encounters with the Ugandan people both in passing and also during a planned visit to Ride 4 A Woman, a charity which supports and helps to educate women in need and which is well worth knowing more about. The whole two weeks was packed with fun and spur of the moment additions to our experience of the country. Pete's ability to jump out of the plan and add a visit to such things as salt mines, Angola longhorn herds, and the tree pangolin rescue organization added to the variety of our experience and made the 2 weeks a more encompassing and exciting journey than we have experienced before. And these are only some of the highlights from the 2 fabulous weeks we spent on safari in Uganda a trip well with taking. Thank you for your untiring exuberance Pete, thank you Renee for all the organizing and help you gave to us in the background and thank you Harriet for the organization on the ground. Thank you too to our three amazing drivers whose skills were extraordinary. Two of our drivers were women, as of course is Harriet, which is a super achievement in Uganda and they are such great role models for young women and girls all over the country.

Pete and Renee's wow factor continues unabated and we returned home exhausted from the sensory overload of a trip which encompassed river safaris with animals from shoreline to horizon, roads where we sat next to relaxing lions and browsing elephants and walking where we were so close to Rhino, Chimpanzees and Gorillas that I needed a smaller zoom lens. As ever Pete, Renee and the local team were expert in anticipating behaviours and getting us in the right position for the best photos. We're already looking forward to the next trip. Thanks guys!
